Creating and Maintaining Your Faculty Web Site

When your faculty web site is created for your use, all you have initially is a folder on the server and authorization to create pages and transfer them to that location where they can be viewed by others. Initially the site has no content, and it is up to you to decide how you want to populate it. There are several methods for accomplishing this, as described below. If you decide not to create a home page, visitors to your site will see an online form that can be used to send you an email message.

For assistance in setting up your faculty web page, or if you do not have a faculty web account or have forgotten your password, contact the Faculty Web manager at facultyweb@roosevelt.edu.

Using Forms

Tools are available that make it easy for users to create and edit a home page, create subfolders for course documents, and upload and delete files. These tools are all form-based and require no technical knowledge of website construction. You can access them from the faculty web site administration page (you'll need to log in with your faculty web site credentials provided to you when you account was set up). Available on the faculty web server is a sample home page and a sample folder page constructed using these tools.

Using Third-Party Authoring Tools

Creating web sites on the faculty server requires two basic tools: an application for the creation of the HTML pages themselves, and a method for transfering those pages from the desktop to the server. Any number of software applications are available for this purpose on most standard computing platforms, including Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. For assistance in exploring these options, please contact the faculty web manager at facultyweb@roosevelt.edu.
