Prepare for advising Email your advisor Helpful advising resources
Beginning in the Fall of 2008, the Department of Professional and Liberal Studies (formerly the Bachelor of General/Professional Studies) implemented a new advising system so that all PLS students would be assigned a primary advisor for the duration of his/her undergraduate term. This will help us both get to know each other and ensure that your coursework selection each semester is correct. If you are one of my advisees, we will discuss your next semester's courses usually via a phone conference and/or emails.
First, prepare for our advising conversation:
Make sure you have an updated and signed copy of the Curriculum Checksheet for your declared major (e.g., psychology, paralegal studies, etc.). If you need a fresh copy, I can email you one, but please hold onto it from semester to semester.
Check the online course schedule for class availability.
Make sure you don't have any holds on your registration by checking RU Access.
Check your RU student email for important announcements from me or the university
Once you've prepared by doing all of the above, email me and include the following information:
1. Your name and student ID number,
2. Your declared major (if you don't have a major yet or if you are thinking about changing majors, please indicate 1-3 majors that you are considering),
3. How many total credit hours or total number of courses you'd like to take the next semester, and
4. Any specific courses offered that are of special interest to you.
Additionally, if you would prefer talking with me (rather than emailing back and forth), please also include at least three different days with specific blocks of time that would work for me to phone you. FYI: I am not generally available in the evening or on weekends for phone conference advising.
