The Fifth Roosevelt University Mini-Conference on Teaching: RUMCOT 5
Friday, April 11, 2008 from 9:45 am until 2:30 pm
Downtown Campus, Auditorium Building
The Center for Teaching and Learning is pleased to announce the Fifth Annual Roosevelt University Mini-Conference on Teaching for all full-time and part-time faculty members, administrators, and staff, which will focus on enhancing teaching. The Mini-Conference will feature workshops, teaching roundtable discussions, panels, and a showcase of on-line learning and library resources.
We invite you to submit a proposal for inclusion in the conference program. There are four forms of submissions:
1. Workshop proposals. Workshops will be 90 minutes in length, interactive in nature, and generally focus on developing faculty members’ teaching skills. In past years, workshop topics included promoting students’ critical thinking skills, using technology in your courses, and incorporating social justice into college teaching. We will be able to offer a small number of concurrent workshops at the conference.
2. Teaching roundtable discussion proposals. Roundtables will be 45 minutes in length and are less structured in nature. Faculty members will lead a discussion on a particular topic with a group of attendees who sit at the roundtable. Topics will be varied in nature and can include critical or philosophical issues related to college teaching or sharing an interesting teaching technique or method. We will be able to offer a relatively larger number of roundtable discussions at the conference.
3. Panel proposals. Panel presentations will be either 45 or 90 minutes in length, and will allow multiple presenters to discuss a common topic or theme. Panel organizers should collaborate with colleagues to develop a series of related presentations and should ensure ample time for discussion. Presenters can invite colleagues from nearby community colleges or universities to participate in panel presentations as well.
4. RUOnline/Blackboard showcase proposals. Showcases will be 45 to 90 minutes in length and will display best practices in online learning. These less formal presentations will allow attendees to interact with presenters who have had successful experiences teaching in online environments. Networked computers will be available.
Proposals should contain the following information:
1. Submitters’ name(s), departmental affiliation, and mailing address.
2. Submitters’ email address(es).
3. Preferred type of presentation (workshop, teaching roundtable, panel, Blackboard showcase).
4. Title of presentation.
5. A 250-word minimum summary of your presentation (appropriate for inclusion in the program).
Proposals should be emailed to Steven Meyers at smeyers@roosevelt.edu before March 10, 2008 for consideration. The conference will be held in Congress Lounge of Roosevelt University's Auditorium Building at 430 S. Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL 60605. Authors of accepted proposals will be invited to expand the written summary of their presentations for publication in the Proceedings of the Fifth Roosevelt University Mini-Conference on Teaching. Call 312-341-6363 if you have any questions.
