Certificate Programs
Certificate in Child and Family Studies: The Undergraduate CFS Program
The Certificate in Child and Family Studies provides Roosevelt University undergraduates with an opportunity to learn about child development from an interdisciplinary perspective, and addresses issues of parenting, schooling, and the place of children and families in society and culture.
Students pursuing the four-course Certificate will select from a range of courses offered by the College of Education and the College of Arts and Sciences. The fourth class for the Certificate culminates is the field placement course (PSYC 398) which involves 72 hours of direct interaction with children and families. In an approved setting (e.g., elementary school classrooms, child care facilities, after-school or YMCA programs, pediatric in-patient units in hospitals), students gather first-hand experiences to complement their participation in an online course.
Students often ask the question, "What can I do with a Certificate in Child and Family Studies?" You have considerable flexibility in choosing the courses for the Certificate and the site for your field placement, so the answers depend on your interests. However, click here to download a pdf handout that summarizes representative occupations and employers.

Certificate in Clinical Child and Family Studies: The Graduate CCFS Program
The Certificate in Clinical Child and Family Studies provides students enrolled in Roosevelt University's three clinically-oriented graduate programs offered by the Department of Psychology with an opportunity to gain expertise in working with children. This Certificate is sufficiently versatile so that it can be successfully incorporated into the training provided within our MA in Clinical Psychology, MA in Clinical Professional Psychology, or PsyD in Clinical Psychology programs.
Four courses (12 credit hours) are required to earn a Certificate in Clinical Child and Family Studies. Students pursuing the Certificate will select from a series of class options currently offered by the Department of Psychology. The fourth course for the Certificate is a clinical placement (your practicum or internship) that is dedicated to serving children and families.
