Professor Emeritus of Economics

University of Chicago

November30, 2005

The Economics Seminar is pleased to welcome Lester Telser.  Telser is a distinguished economist and a graduate of Roosevelt University.  He was awarded in 2005 the St. Clair Drake Award for Outstanding Scholarship. At Roosevelt Telser was a student of the legendary economist Abba Lerner (see "Featured Guests").  Telser went on to complete the Ph.D. in Economics at the University of Chicago, where he stayed, becoming a professor of economics and creating his own legend.  Telser has done path-breaking work on game theory, the theory of the core, and industrial organization.  His influence is wide and of indisputable quality.  He cares about the real world.  Of late his interests have turned toward the economic history of the Great Depression and Federal Reserve Bank policy.

Telser is now Professor Emeritus of Economics at the University of Chicago.  On November 30 he will discuss the economic implications of zero required reserves.  And he promises to tell some stories about Abba Lerner.
