Research Interests
My research interests fall generally in the areas of health psychology, multiculturalism and social justice, gender and racial/ethnic diversity issues, and community mental health. Current research projects include evaluations of the reliability and validity of scales used to measure aspects of health, well-being, and recovery in people with chronic mental illness, evaluating the reliability of a scale to measure self-injury, and developing and validating a scale to measure attitudes towards social justice. In addition, I am currently working on a study that will evaluate the effectiveness of a group intervention for young adults with mental illness. Other strong research interests include examining the stress on neurobiology and cognitive functioning in persons with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), and addressing the health disparities that exist for people of color with CFS; understanding how psychologists and psychotherapists can incorporate activities to promote social justice and cultural competence in their work; and examining the effect of racial microaggressions on mental and physical health for people of color.
