Bituminous coal mining history of Western Pennsylvania with emphasis on development of left-leaning elements of United Mine Workers.
American Journalism History
Decline of big city newspapers and news institutions in the 20th century, with emphasis on impact of public ownership on print media. Developing new media models, inherent conflicts and maintaining values in the face of commercial pressure.
American Religious History, 19th Century Reform Movement
Poetry and essays of Rev. Henry Harbaugh, his role in the Reform Church movement and educational reform in Central Pennsylvania from 1840 to 1870, books "Birds of the Bible" (1852) among them.
