Quiz Information and Tips This section of BGS 391 online has two quizzes, each worth 25 points. These are intended to assess your grasp and retention of basic, important points and concepts from our course readings, including textbook assignments and required websites. I will develop quiz questions from our readings as well as from our discussion board conversations about the readings as the semester unfolds. Each quiz will include ten 2-point questions (a mixture of true-false and multiple-choice format) and one 5-point short essay question. The quizzes are designed to test your critical thinking ability rather than merely your short-term memory. Some of the questions will ask you to apply what you've learned in class to various kinds of scenarios or concepts. My expectation, however, is that if you've read and thought about the readings, and contributed to the discussion board, you will have little problem with the quiz material. During each of the weeks when a quiz is scheduled, I will make the quiz available for a multi-day period, probably from Tuesday through Thursday, so that you have ample opportunity to login anytime during that period and complete the assignment. When the quiz is ready and available, I'll have that information posted on the Announcements page and in a broadcast email message; I'll also remind you the week before that a quiz is approaching. Once the quiz is ready, you can access it in the Quiz section of our Bb site. Each quiz will be timed, meaning that once you login and begin, Bb will record the time it takes you to complete the quiz. Since these are short quizzes and not major exams, I will set a time limit of approximately 45 minutes for each quiz, as they are not intended to be "open book." If you go overtime, you can still complete the quiz -- but I will have a record of your time, and going significantly over the allotted time will result in deducted points. (This is to prevent someone taking three hours to complete a short quiz, which would allow him/her to research every question thoroughly.) Bb will allow you to back-track and review or change your answers, just like in a traditional pencil-and-paper format. |
