Graduating from Roosevelt University’s College of Education does not mark the end of one’s development as a teacher, it is merely one step in an ongoing process of growth. The Beginning Teacher Support Program is committed to nurturing that process for new teachers.

We strive to develop ways of fostering lifelong reflective practice and professional learning communities while remaining responsive to the daily teaching issues that demand “ just-in-time” solutions.

BTSP Initiatives: Spring 2004

On-going, on-line mentor access and support: In addition to providing on-line support to pre-service teachers, designated RU faculty will now also monitor work groups/ “rooms” (via Blackboard) that are accessible to RU alumnae.  Alumnae can post questions (according to topic), ask for guidance and seek resources from select COE and COAS faculty experts.  Log onto the RU Online link from the university’s website and follow the prompts for Blackboard.

On-line monthly professional development workshops: RU/COE alumnae will now have access (via Blackboard) to monthly chat sessions with regional/national experts within the field of education.  To date, the following people have been identified to facilitate on-line professional development workshops: Beverly Ann Chin, Martha Cheney, and Johnny Lott.  Follow the same login steps described above to access Blackboard

In-Person Professional Development Opportunities: Continuing the alumnae support initiative from year four, recent RU/COE alumnae will be provided with monthly, in person, for CPDU credit, topic specific professional development workshops and seminars.  The next scheduled workshop will target last year’s alumnae workshop participants and will be held in February 2004.

Beginning in March, larger, multi-topic workshops will be held at each RU campus.
